I love New York City. Even though it gets a reputation for grit and harshness, I find it to be one of the most connected cities I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Perhaps because everyone is on the street together. New Yorkers aren’t separated by cars and houses. They’re packed in together on the train and stacked into their apartment buildings. And even though their eyes never really meet each others, it feels like a tight knit community. That, and the food. So.much.food.
One of my goals this year was to start shooting in New York. And many thanks to Nathan & Anna, it’s going to start happening in August when I shoot their wedding! I am giddy excited to be making this jump, and so thrilled that Nathan & Anna will be my first. See, I met Nathan a hundred years ago. Well, not really, but it feels like that. Nathan is a close friend of Jess & Josh, one of the very first couples that ever trusted me to document their wedding way back in 2009. When I met with Jess & Josh I didn’t even have sample albums yet. I was sure that they hated me and I was never ever going to be able to make it in this business. Then, Jess emailed me, I shot their wedding, and they’ve become two of our closest friends.
So, back to Nathan… Nathan was actually the officiant at their wedding! He was so warm and funny, a great human being. A few years later, over brunch, I met Anna. Anna is sweet and kind, also, an excellent human being. They are the most amazing complement to each other and I was thrilled when Jess told me they were getting engaged! And then sooo excited to get an email from Nathan about shooting their wedding. It’s a little bit full circle here kids, and I’m so happy to document this next union of two really incredible people.
Last week, as the sun was shining and the temperatures rising, I set off for NYC to shoot Nathan & Annas engagement session. I was nervous about the weather, checking daily as soon as Saturday came up on the thirty day weather forecast. I feared rain. I feared clouds. I feared storms. But we were blessed with four of the most amazing days IN A ROW that I could ever have asked for! The city is just coming alive and it was absolute perfect timing. The idea was to shoot a perfect day in New York City. So, we started in Central Park, and then headed down to Times Square where Nathans’ show Motown The Musical has just opened. (If you’re in the city, go go go go go see it. Was absolutely incredible!) I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Nathan & Anna – you two are, well, you’re just wonderful! The way you love each other is absolutely beautiful and I am so happy to document it. I had such a great afternoon with the two of you and I couldn’t be more excited to do it all over again in August! See you so soon!
