Growing up I thought work was a 9-5, sit-at-a-desk and wear-a-suit type of situation.  And I did that for a while.  Now, with all my freedom, I finding that I don’t like to work in the  morning.  I like to work mid-day and into the evening.  Which is kind of odd for me as I spent my growing up years totally turning off at 8 pm.  Seriously, homework had to be an afternoon thing as I had a hard time remembering my name when the sun went down.   So, now I gym in the morning and I feel so much more productive in the afternoon.

Chris is working on a documentary about the school systems and spends his day in Watts at a middle school.  I went with him last Friday and shot some stuff.  Quite humbling to meet an 8th grader who got into a fight because he was from the other side of town.  And I’m so proud of Chris for what he’s doing there!

I went to Watts with him on Friday because they were having a big African American History Month Program.  The drill team did a Step piece with a four piece percussion.  I wish I had rhythm, or at least didn’t look totally ridiculous, because I would totally join a drill team and step.  I was bouncing around behind my camera and grinning and even that probably looked totally ridiculous.

We’ve spent a long time on the "bones" of our house.  Major renovation stuff.  And now that it’s thisclose to being done I get to do my part!  I’ve decided to take one area of the house a week to completely finish.   Last week was a little sitting area and it’s perfection.  I keep looking at it and falling in love.  Then I look at the unfinished areas and I get sad.  Should only take about 18 years to finish.

My birthday is on Sunday!  For weeks I thought I was going to be 27.  But then I realized that I’m only going to be 26.

I spent a lot of time working last year.  So I did very few domestic things.  Home cooked meals took a bit hit and we ate a lot of TJ’s pizza (which is fantastic BTW.)  I really want to cook more regularly now.  So far, two nights in a row.  Grilled Artichoke Hearts and Seared Chicken topped with Shallots on Monday and Apple & Celery Salad and Brick Chicken on Sunday.  I’m a recipe kind of girl.  I stick to each and every ingredient, never improvising or playing.  But I’m getting my handling on it and have started to play a little bit.  The Artichokes and the Apple & Celery Salad… kind of my own thing.

I had a meeting downtown on Saturday, so I went early and hit the Flower Market.  Dear market, how I love thee.  I bought lots of poufy white flowers and made a beautiful arrangement for the kitchen.  I also bought a whole bunch of greenery.  I don’t know why, I’m not a big fan of the greenery.  So most of it went unused.  Then, I realized that one of the green things I bought and chucked I actually have!  As a plant!  My mother-in-law bought and planted it for us and it’s growing well (despite my having never watered it.  Ever.)

Remember the Christmas light situation.  Well, I took most of them down finally.  But Chris got the ones in the tree wrapped around it real good.  So, I gathered them into a bundle on one end, then threw the bundle into the tree to unwrap it.  Well, now it’s stuck in the tree.  And the tree is tall.

30Rock is the most amazing show.  We just started watching it about a month ago.  Then we got the previous seasons from Netflix and watched too many episodes each night.  It’s the only show as of late that I laugh out loud at.
