So, with our project house comes a project yard. A brown yard. That was dead. Super dead. And I’ve taken it as my duty to make it lush & green & fruitful. Because I love lush & green & fruitful yards. The issue here is that I have a brown thumb. I can’t keep a thing alive if it can’t tell me it’s hungry. You name it, I’ve likely allowed it to die under my not-so-watchful eye.
So, the dead brown yard is quite the predicament. We’re starting from scratch and it’s been quite the experience. Many things have passed on, and a few plants are nearly thriving! I think the ground and sprinkler system have been super helpful.
One of the first big purchases was a grapefruit tree. We were at Sheridan Gardens in Burbank (fantastic place by the way) and this tree smelled delicious. The white flowers were so pretty & the 13 grapefruits so juicy. And it smelled so beautiful. I stood next to it and smelled it for a good four minutes before declaring that this was now my tree.
So, we ate the amazing grapefruits… with sugar and in salads and in muffins. Then it was bare. For months. It just started to bloom! It smells amazing and we got our very first teeny tiny grapefruit. I watched it every day. Gleaming with pride that I’d kept it alive long enough to grow a grapefruit!
And then, my grapefruit dreams were crushed. IT FELL OFF!

No grapefruit yet. But, it does smell AHHHHmazing!
