I am OBSESSED with my cats. Seriously, I don’t think I could love my boys anymore. If I could take them out with me, without looking like a crazy cat lady, I totally would. I once bought leashes for them (bordering on crazy cat lady, I know) but they didn’t really appreciate the feel of concrete on their paws.
Bingley and Jack are brothers. We found them on Craig’s List and I picked them up at a Bank of America parking lot. They were six weeks old and maybe a handful of pounds a piece. They were so teeny tiny and so super adorable. Chris wanted to name them Jack and Coke. I vetoed that pretty immediately and we decided he could name one, I would name the other. Chris went with Jack, and I went more literary with Bingley.
They’re now 4 years old and 20 pounds a piece.
Until we bought the house, they were apartment kitties. At the condo, they had a balcony and began to recognize the awesomeness that is outside. But it was pretty contained and I never worried about them. At the house, Jack has discovered how to go out on our balcony, jump down to the air conditioning unit and into the backyard. Then he found out how to get into the front yard. And then he left. I realized he was gone and nearly lost it. I spent an entire day in between tears and heaving sobs.
I woke up at 2 am that morning and he was just staring at me. With that look that says "Hey, what’s up? How are you? What’d you do today?" He’s pretty expressive

So, it looks like we have indoor/outdoor kitties now. Well, Jack is. Bingley is too much of a lazy kitty to actually jump off the roof as he would much rather hang out by the back door and eat the grass! So, this week he got a collar. Pretty sexy kitty, no?

Cute story! He is sexy, love the eyes. It’s ok, I’m a crazy dog lady and love my Jack like a child too.

Blake also attempted the leash thing with our boys last summer…needless to say, it did not take. Sometimes, he tries to put the leash on them to “get them used to it,” and they do one of two things: attack the leash like it’s a toy, or lay down and let Blake drag them across the hardwood floor. It’s ridiculous.
Ours are only allowed on the balcony when supervised because we live on the 11th floor, but once Blake accidentally locked the more adventurous one out there for almost two hours before he realized what he had done. I was out of town and I nearly killed him. So I know how you feel.

How funnny! Our boys, Kevin and Ari, are also brothers who we found on Craigslist and picked up at a Burger King parking lot 4 years ago!
My husband is more crazy cat lady than I am – wanting to train them to go on leashes. It ain’t happenin’.
They are still apartment kitties and I would be terrified to let them become outdoor kitties. I hope Jack doesn’t stray to far from home!

Too cute! Jack looks a lot like my baby Claudia! Cats can be ok on leashes, so long as you start them early and don’t expect them to act like a dog. When Claudia was young I used to put her on a long leash (20 feet) and let her hang out in the front yard with me. She loved it and would bring me the leash to let me know when she wanted out! But, even when she was really used to it she never wanted to walk with me, she was too into doing her own thing – typical cat!
