I spend a lot of time behind the camera. It’s my love. It’s my job. It’s my life. I can direct and position and encourage and I hope to capture the things that make my clients unique through my lens. I love it. And I think that I’m pretty good at it!
But taking a few steps onto the other side of the camera can really change things. Well, it changes everything. I become awkward and I don’t know what to do with my hands. I dance, awkwardly. Like, painfully awkward. And I laugh because it makes me nervous. I think about all of the things I would love to be able to change about my face, my eyebrows, my legs, my cankles. And then I realize that I have to let that all go. To create something amazing and true you have to let it all go. To be vulnerable and real and myself. This is me and I’m pretty happy about it. (Well, except for the cankles… they’re never leaving and I’m going to have to work on loving those!)
So, thank you, to all of the amazingly beautiful people who put themselves in front of my camera. Who let it all go, embrace the awkwardness and show me their true selves. I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know.
On our amazing trip to Joshua Tree, I shot Megan and Megan shot me. Megan is an incredible photographer, an amazing human being and a dear friend. These are just a few of my favorites from her camera. Take a peek at her blog for more!
